Up Close with Loughborough Lightning

Today we are getting up close with Loughborough Lightning to find out a bit more about the team.

Do you have any new initiatives to get more players and fans to come to your games?

We’re trying to link our community activity more closely to game day. This includes match day experiences for junior clubs and also back to netball offers,  along with skills for schools and corporate packages. Themed games proved popular last year so we'll try some new ideas around this.

Our Season Launch this season will celebrate 15 years of Loughborough Ligntning and the Netball Superleague. Alumni will return to be celebrated as part of the Lighting family.  This will carry forward throughout the season.

We are also continuing with themed games to bring something different to some of our games. These will be launched throughout the season so check out our social media channels for more information.

Hospitality will also be available at all of our games, allowing our fans to enjoy a complimentary meal  prior to the game.

What Is your mascot and concept behind it?

Our mascot is 'Bolt', as in Lightning bolt, he's at all of our games and is a fan favourite. Watch out for the new Bolt toy coming this season.

What is your link with the university?

The franchise is owned and operated by Loughborough University. We operate the Lightning pathway, with hubs across the East Midlands alongside our Performance pathway for Student Athletes.

Players to watch this year and why?

Alice Harvey and Jasmin Odeogberin are both young defenders. Already within the England U21 set-up they’ll be looking for court time and to make an impact at this level.

Can you tell us something that people wouldn’t know about Loughbrough Lightning?

We have been in the Superleague since its inception 15 years ago. This year we are celebrating all lightning’s players throughout the years, including 4 England captains (Olivia Murphy, Karen Atkinson, Jade Clarke, Ama Agbeze)
