Held every four years, the Games have grown massively, from just 11 countries and 400 athletes to a now a global jamboree of 6,500 athletes and officials from across 72 nations and territories. It is a fantastic display of sportsmanship, athleticism and friendship from all across the world.
This year promises a fully inclusive event, with the games focused on being for everyone. Birmingham 2022 becomes the first major multi-sport event with more women’s than men’s medal events. The Games will host 19 sports and eight para sports , and a huge emphasis on the Commonwealth’s youth.
